Main causes of loss in associations

Orlando López,

Main causes of loss in associations

The american agency Marketing General Incorporated has more than 35 years of experience in marketing associations. MGI each year conducts a study with a wide sample of associations to identify what their problems and challenges are.

The study analyzes many indicators about processes, participation, communication, marketing, etc.

One of the indicators that most caught our attention was the question about the main causes of sick leave. It varies in the case of associations where the associate is a professional or a natural person to associations where the partner is a company or organization.

Following the order of the most frequent cause to the least frequent:

Business associations

1. Lack of involvement with the association

2. Not appreciate the return in value of the payment of the fee

3. Budget cuts in the company

4. Company that closes or merges with another

Other less frequent

Associations of professionals or individuals

1. Company does not pay the fees

2. Change of profession or activity

3. Lack of involvement with the association

4. Not appreciate the return in value of the payment of the fee

Other less frequent

In the following table extracted from the last annual study of MGI you can appreciate the causes with their percentages.
